Frequently Asked Questions

Who can sign up for Franklin Jr Wildcats Cheer?

FJW will welcome any youth cheerleader in the age groups below. There is no cheer experience necessary, and we welcome all to register. We encourage future Franklin High School cheerleaders to join but do not have any residential boundaries for our program.

Which Cheer team will my cheerleader be on?

Our program offers cheerleading for ages 6-14.  We have 4 teams, and teams are based on age as of August 1 of the current year.  There is a possibility for cheerleaders to move up a division based on team needs, experience, and skill.

Cheer

o   8u Team - ages 6, 7, & 8.

o   10u Team - ages 9 & 10.

o   12u Team - ages 11 & 12.

o   14u Team - ages 13 & 14.

What league will our teams play in?

The FJW organization is a member of Sacramento Youth Football. SYF has multiple divisions, and division placements can change each year. Specific division placement will be announced when it is released by SYF.

What kind of time commitment can I expect from the Cheer season?

The exact dates can change each year when the official SYF start dates are released, but below are some general informational items that you’ll find useful. Youth Cheer is a substantial time commitment, and we want to make sure our families are aware. Once the calendar is finalized and announced, it will be very specific and detailed.

* We encourage cheerleaders to play other sports in the cheer off-season.

·       All our practices and official camps will be held at Toby Johnson, Franklin High School, or another local school in the EGUSD.

·       FJW Pre-Season camp in mid-April, registered for separately.

·       2-Day Jamz Camp in late-July (not overnight).

·       The season will officially start in late-July with 4 practices per week (M - Th).

·       Once our games begin in late-August, practices will decrease to 3 days per week (T - Th).

·       We will have one weekend jamboree, approx.. 8 regular season games on Saturdays.

·       Organization and team events (fundraising events, parent meetings, opening day, team banquet, etc.).

·       Game times are as follows: 8u - 10am, 10u - 12pm, 12u - 2pm, 14u - 4pm.

·       Games usually last approximately 2 hours, and coaches generally ask cheerleaders to arrive 60 minutes prior to game time for pre-game meetings and warmups.

·       There will be 2 SYF cheer competitions during the season.

·       There will be 2 Jamz Competitions during the season (Oct. & Dec).

·       There is potential for teams to go to Jamz Nationals in January of the following year.

Are practices mandatory?

Yes.  If a situation arises where you will not be able to attend practice, please contact your head coach and team parent as soon as possible. There may be performance consequences from missed practices.

Can parents stay to watch practice?

Yes.  It is helpful for parents to watch practice to see what skills, cheers, and routines are being taught so the parent can support outside of cheer. Parents must understand their role as a spectator at practices and allow their child to be with their team and coaches without parental interference during practice time.

What items are included in registration, and what do we need to provide?

Your registration includes a spirit pack for you to keep (t-shirt, shorts, bow).  These will be handed out in July. It also includes, SYF and Jamz competition fees, along with competition music.

Families will purchase their cheer uniform package, and these will be purchased through our program vendor.

What are the costs and other financial aspects of youth Cheer?

·       Registration will be between $350 and $450, depending on when you register (register early to get the early-bird discount).

·       Payment plans are available in monthly installments.

·       Families will need to purchase their cheer uniform and shoes as referenced in the FAQ section above.

·       There are two fundraisers we host to aide in uniform cost.

·       There may be additional costs associated with choreography and competition fees.
