Franklin On The Road At Oak Ridge

The Mighty Mites fought hard until the final whistle. After a long tough game the score was not in their favor. Franklin lost 12-7.

Despite having two touchdowns called back due to penalties, the Jr. PeeWee’s recorded its first shutout of the season as they beat Oak Ridge 14-0. The offense was led by Marcus Clarke and Jalen Lampley as they both rushed for touchdowns. The defense was led by Jacob Williams as he made several tackles all over the field.

PeeWee’s were up against stiff competition as they lost to the Trojans 26-0.

It was a tough loss for the Jr. Midgets this week. Final score was 35-0.

The Midgets faced another tough opponent this week. This game was definitely won in the trenches led by Franklin’s defensive tackle, Marlon Sanchez. The big play of the day was an 80 yard kick-off return by the Wildcat’s Michael Jones. Franklin won with a 24-14 Victory.

Next week, Wildcats will be travel to Bear River High School to battle the Bear River Jr. Bruins.

FRANKLIN JR. WILDCAT FOOTBALL PLAYER QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL YOUTH TRACK & FIELD MEET.

Jacob J. Williams  a 9 year old of   MP Striders, recently qualified to compete in the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics Championships to be held in Sacramento at Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium on July 27-August 1st.

Jacob successfully finished as the number 1 seed in the 200 meters, 400 meters and the 4x400 relay in    Modesto’s “Top 3” qualifying meet   July 9-11. The qualifying meet showcased boys and girls from Central and Northern California. He will compete as a Bantam, which represents the age group for 9 and 10 year olds.

Jacob is no stranger to the Junior Olympics. In 2008, he competed at the age of   7   against 9 and 10 year old boys in the 4x100 relay in Omaha, Nebraska.   And in 2009, he qualified for Nationals in the 400 meters in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Junior Olympics Track & Field are comprised of  Youth Track Clubs and Organizations all over the United States.   The ages range from 8-18 years for both boys and girls. Each State competes within their respective regions and then send their top 3 qualifiers in each event to the National meet.   The last time Sacramento hosted the National Meet was in 2001.

Franklin Jr. Wildcats also has Kenny Woods and Matthew Baldacchino competing with Jacob on the 4x400 relay team. The National Meet will surely be a spectacle for the Sacramento region.   For more information visit: www.usatf.org/events/2010/usatfjuniorolympictfchampionships

In Loving Memory of Larry Long

This past week FJW lost a member of the Jr. Wildcat family.  Larry Long has been a huge supporter of the Jr. Wildcat program as assistant coach, weigh-master, and concession manager. Larry was an all around great guy with his jovial let's do it attitude. Larry will be missed greatly!
